Einar and Jamex de la Torre: Inter-Continental Divide
February 6 – April 18, 2010
Just as the Rocky Mountains are a Continental Divide, the border between the United States and Mexico is an Inter-Continental Divide. Internationally recognized artists, Einar and Jamex de la Torre live and work on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border providing them with an insider-outsider perspective. Their blown glass and mixed media work examines and confronts the complexities of this geographical, cultural and historical divide with a sense of humor that is playful, yet compelling.
Einar and Jamex de la Torre are the recent recipients of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award and the Joan Mitchell Grant. Their public art projects include the Phoenix Civic Center Plaza, City of Phoenix Valley Metro Station, and San Diego’s New Central Library. Their art is in the private collections of Sandra Cisneros, Elton John, Cheech Marin, Terry McMillan and Quincy Troupe.

Artists Amy Caron, Jimmy Lucero, Mattson McFarland, Elmer Presslee and Zara Dawn Shallbetter create an art installation that explores the idea of borders. As each artist builds his/her territory in the gallery, artistic borders will inevitably cross and individual ideas intersect. Gallery visitors are invited and encouraged to add to the installation during open studio sessions with each artist and regular gallery hours.
