We are pleased to introduce the newest gallery to Park City, Bruce Lurie Gallery!

It’s been awhile, but every month or two we try to tell the story of a local gallery and the gallerists and artists behind them. For this month’s spotlight we spoke with Scott Lurie of Bruce Lurie Gallery at 6622 N Landmark Dr in Park City, UT. Bruce Lurie Galley was originally established in the early 1980s in New York’s East Village and has since  relocated to Los Angeles Culver City Arts District and Park City, UT!

Arts Council: Tell me a bit about Bruce Lurie Gallery

Scott Lurie: I started this art gallery with my brothers back in the 80s. We started in New York and now we’ve expanded to Los Angeles and Park City, UT. When Covid happened all of our art fairs were shut down and we had to think outside the box, so we decided to call a lot of our past clients and sell to them directly. One of those people happened to live in Park City, UT and that got us thinking about opening a gallery in the Park City area so we came to visit and found this open space and decided to open up in this location on Landmark Dr.

AC: Tell me about the selection of artists that you feature in the gallery.

Scott Lurie: We have artists from all over the world. It’s all about the artist. We have to connect with them on a spiritual and emotional level. We have such great connections with our artists and with our customers that we are still buying and selling all of the time, even during COVID. Having a gallery during this time is all about adapting and rolling with the punches. Life is like riding a bicycle, in order to keep your balance you have to keep moving.

AC: Do you have a favorite piece in the space right now?

Scott Lurie: Everything is my favorite piece. We believe in all of these people, but this artist, Michael Gorman, and his art is very special to me. He paints on paper and canvas and has a lot of celebrity clientele.

Do you know Plastic Jesus? This is a great work by him.

And Gary John. He was homeless when we met in 2013. He was living on the street in Venice Beach and one of our clients in Los Angeles told us about him. He came to us with just a few pieces and he blew up! He now has his own house and is known for these types of pieces that feature pop culture from the 60s and 70s.

AC:  Why do you think art is important?

Scott Lurie: Art is essential. It makes us feel good. It warms the heart. It is so important to surround yourself with things you connect with. Art is very subjective. Buy what you’re drawn to and buy what you connect with. It will make you feel good.
