Public Art in Park City & Summit County
Hoytsville Historical Mural by International Muralist Sasha Primo. Video production by Eclectic Brew Productions.
Public art plays a vital role in shaping how our community looks, feels, and connects. As the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County, we support public art in multiple ways — from advising public agencies to helping partners bring creative projects to life.
Our Role in Public Art
Public Art Advisory Boards
Summit County Public Art Advisory Board
We serve as the administrator and advisor to the Summit County Public Art Advisory Board, supporting the planning, operations, and public engagement of the program. This includes oversight of Summit County’s 1% Percent-for-Art Policy, which allocates one percent of eligible county capital improvement project budgets toward the commissioning and installation of public art. Through this process, we help ensure that new public buildings and infrastructure projects contribute to a vibrant and culturally rich public realm.
We support public art through program administration, artist calls and selection, community engagement, and project management, with projects ranging from county capital improvement installations to permanent artworks in public facilities.

Park City Public Art Advisory Board
We advise the Park City Public Art Advisory Board, supporting City-led public art planning, artist calls, and selection processes. Our role focuses on helping guide projects that reflect Park City’s identity, values, and sense of place while prioritizing clear, equitable processes for artists.
We provide advisory support for artist calls and review processes, offer strategic guidance on public art planning, and support community-centered approaches for city-led public art projects, including both temporary and permanent artworks throughout Park City.

Private & Partner-Led Public Art Projects
Private & Partner-Led Public Art Projects
We support public-facing art projects led by local organizations, districts, and private partners through guidance, artist call development, and selection support. This work allows partners to integrate art into shared spaces while maintaining fair, transparent, and artist-centered processes.
Support includes:
Developing and managing calls for artists
Advising on artist selection and review panels
Process design and best practices for public art

Public Art in Our Community
Public art across Park City and Summit County includes murals, sculptures, temporary installations, and creative interventions led by many artists, agencies, and partners.
In addition to the projects we support directly, we aim to highlight and celebrate the broader public art landscape throughout the region.
SUMMIT COUNTY PUBLIC ART HIGHLIGHTS
Summit County Fine Art Collection
Since the 1990s, Summit County has collected the artwork of talented artists living in the area. Each year the county selects one to two works from the Summit County Fair Art Show to purchase and add to the collection. The collection is on view at the Summit County Administrative Building in Coalville, UT.
George Beard Photography Exhibit
The work of pioneer artist George Beard creates a captivating portrait of the early days of Coalville. Beard’s embrace of glass plate technology skillfully documented moments both public and private, and worlds both natural and man-made. Beard’s photographs beautifully capture the transformation of this community across five decades around the turn of the century. The photographs he took of Coalville and the surrounding area are now on display at the Ledges Event Center.
Commissioned Public Art
In April, 2008, the Summit County Board of Commissioners affirmed their belief that the aesthetic nature and charm of Summit County is further enhanced by the arts. Through ordinance 696, the Commissioners created the Summit County Public Art Program and Advisory Board. The county now allocates 1% of capital facility funds for commissioned public artworks.
Art Pianos
The "Art Pianos for All" program seeks to bring back the piano as a centerpiece of community and fun by placing artist decorated pianos in public areas for all to play. An annual pop-up concert series utilizing the pianos features professional Utah Orchestra members playing the pianos on site.
