International Mural Artist Sasha Primo is coming to Summit County this May

Spring into action this May and join artist Sasha Primo for an Art Talk, Community Workshops and Paint Days to help bring the Hoytsville Historical Mural to life! The Summit County Public Art Advisory Board, with support from the Arts Council will produce a historical mural to be installed at the Summit County Public Works Building in Hoytsville. This project was conceived in response to a request from Hoytsville residents for a public artwork that honors the unique history, landscape, and spirit of the region.

Creatively Quarantining - Summit County Arts & Culture Organizations Continue to Serve their Community through Virtual Activities & Events

The Park City Summit County Arts Council recognizes the severe hardship faced by many in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, and our hearts go out to those affected. During this difficult time, many of us are turning to the arts as a coping mechanism, keeping us creatively active during a time of isolation. In an effort to promote this, the Arts Council has launched a social media campaign, #ArtConnectsUs, and has partnered with our local arts and culture nonprofits to program virtual events and activities in the upcoming weeks.

PCSC Arts Council to Host Arts Summit ‘20

The Park City Summit County Arts Council (“Arts Council”) will hold its Arts Summit ‘20 on Friday April 24th from 9am-noon at the Blair Education Center. This free event is an opportunity for the community to convene and celebrate progress in the arts and cultural sector. The Arts Council along with community partners will present about many of the existing projects happening in our community as a result of Project ABC, as well as outline the broad impact of Arts and Culture in Summit County.

Celebrate the New Year with Creative Festivities at the Kimball Arts Center

The Kimball Arts center is holding an event called “Noon Year’s Eve” in which it allows for parents to celebrate the new year with their children at an appropriate time besides midnight. Kimball Arts states, “Celebrate the New Year at a kid-appropriate time with wishes for 2020, art projects, an apple cider toast, and countdown to the 12pm balloon drop. $25 per child, adults are free.” This is a fantastic way to celebrate the new year with children, while the adults celebrate the holiday at midnight.

The Kimball Arts Center is Offering Classes That Celebrate the Holiday Season

The holidays mean different things to different people. For me, the holidays are about family, food, and tradition. The smells, tastes, and decorations bring memories flooding back. The things I once did as a child and now do with those around me to keep those traditions alive. However, I’ve quickly come to realize that trying new things every holiday season is just as important and satisfying. The Kimball Arts Center has already prepared several special classes to help celebrate the coming of the holiday season. Some of these classes include Winter watercolor, custom cards, wrap it up, sweets for Santa, glass fusion, ugly sweaters, gingerbread houses, unique ornaments in glass, and tabletop trees in glass.

Mountain Town Olive Oil // The Next Course Cooking Classes

Jessica McCleary opened the doors to Mountain Town Olive Oil in 2009. Her extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegars from Modena has been a stopping point for locals and tourists enjoying Historic Main Street in Park City. McCleary hopes to help her customers use the liquids to obtain maximum flavor in every meal! 

3 years into the store’s opening, McClearly wanted to do more to offer unique experiences for her customers. She came up with the idea to host a demonstration cooking class called Next Course. Those interested in exploring the possibilities of cooking with olive oil and vinegar are encouraged to attend solo or with loved ones!

Creative Maker Workshops at BRANDed PC // Engaging Guests Through Creative Experiences

BRANDed PC, a pop-up shop created by Park City Summit County Arts Council to spotlight local creative brands, will take over the Rockwell Room at 268 Main Street Dec. 18-22. The pop-up is a one-stop-shop to interact with local products and the stories of the makers who have boldly moved their vision forward. New this year are Creative Maker Workshops — an opportunity for guests to get a behind the scenes look at some of the participating brands and their creative process.

Youth Sports Alliance ACTiV8 Programs Expand to Help Kids Explore Their Inner Creative

The Park City and Summit County community is lucky to have quality programming for our youth. Taking the lead on afterschool programming is Youth Sports Alliance through their ACTiV8 Program.

Youth Programs Director Heather Sims discusses how the program came to be. “ACTiV8 is a collaboration of local businesses, non-profit, sports clubs and local schools that provide supervised after-school activities on early release days for teens and tweens.”

There’s something about the autumn season that presents opportunities for new beginnings. I always feel the need to be more creative in fall. Kimball Art Center Offers Open Studio Evening for Curious Creatives

The Kimball Art Center offers a variety of visual arts classes for our community to enjoy. Many creatives love to make art, but some don’t know exactly what type of art they enjoy creating. To help people overcome that hurdle of deciding how to express their creativity, in addition to satiating a craving to explore the creative process, the KAC has programmed an Open Studio Evening that allows students to experiment with different types of visual art media.

Debbie Leaman, a freelance writer and writing coach, is someone who is passionate about writing, aware of it's challenges, and wants to share her personal experiences to promote the benefits of writing to help others.

When approached with the topic of writing, many people say that they can't write. It's not for them. Debbie notes that "my experience as a freelance writer, writing coach, and developmental editor has taught me that everyone can write. Sometimes all we need is a little help."
