CALL TO ARTISTS: Gondola & Snow Globe Art Stroll

CALL TO ARTISTS: Gondola & Snow Globe Art Stroll

Accepting concepts for creating outdoor Gondola and Snow Globe interiors that reflect the theme “Winter Wonderland”.

PROJECT GOALS:
Canyons Village Management Association (‘CVMA’) and Historic Park City Alliance (‘HPCA’) are seeking Utah-based artists/artist teams to creatively decorate the interior of a series of inactive Gondolas and Snow Globes. The Gondolas will be stationed around Canyons Village at Park City Mountain, and the Snow Globes will be stationed around Park City’s Historic Main Street. Both structures will invite guests to peer inside; those who do will be greeted by a magical scene created by a local Utah visual artist. Each Gondola and Snow Globe will have a QR code display on the exterior, giving guests access to artist information, and a map of the other Gondolas and Snow Globes throughout Park City.

NOTE: The Gondolas and Snow Globes differ in their structure and dimensions. When submitting your application, please specify whether your design is intended for the Gondolas or the Snow Globes. If your design is able to be adapted to fit either structure, please note this in your application as well.

PROJECT DETAILS:
Each Gondola will have a provided 60” x 69” plywood platform. Each Snow Globe will have a provided 30” rotating base. The platforms and bases must be decorated with unique artwork. Ideal proposals for both Gondolas and Snow Globes will include:

  • Winter Wonderland themes.

  • Element(s) of movement.

  • Festive Lighting is encouraged and welcomed (basic interior lighting will be provided). Lighting for the Snow Globes must be 12–24 volts max, compatible with a standard low-voltage outlet.

  • As part of a Gondola & Snow Globe Art Stroll scavenger hunt, artists must integrate a specific object into their design for audiences to find. This year, the object is a silver snowflake.

  • Content appropriate for all ages.

  • For Gondolas: Sculptural/3-dimensional aspects that fit the 60” x 69” plywood platform. Full dimensions of the provided Gondola are shown on pages 8 and 9 of this Call.

  • For Snow Globes: Sculptural/3-dimensional aspects that fit the 30” rotating base. These bases spin constantly, and as such it is recommended you do not design your installation to be more than 30 pounds. Full dimensions of the Snow Globes are shown on page 11 of this Call. The plexiglass globe has a seam down the center of the plexiglass so please have this in mind as you consider how your design will be enclosed.

PROJECT BUDGET:

A budget of $4,000 per Gondola/Snow Globe is inclusive of artists’ fees, materials, labor, insurance (artist agreement will require either worker’s comp insurance or waiver), and equipment to design and produce artwork, artwork installation, and travel costs including ground transportation.

For Gondolas: The exterior of the Gondolas will be wrapped by CVMA.

PROJECT TIMELINE:

Gondolas:

Artists will be selected and notified by October 10, 2025. From October 10 - November 10, 2025 Artists will contract with CVMA and fabricate their artworks. The artwork install period will take place from November 12-19, 2025. CVMA will meet with the artists on November 20, 2025 for final inspection and sign-off. Gondola artwork must be installed onsite at Canyons Village at Park City Mountain in Park City, UT.

The Gondolas will remain at Canyons Village until April 2026, at which time they will be decommissioned and the artworks will be uninstalled by CVMA.

Snow Globes:

Artists will be selected and notified by October 10, 2025. From October 10 - November 10, 2025 Artists will contract with HPCA and fabricate their artworks. Once artists are selected and contracted, they will need to go to Webb Productions in Salt Lake City, UT to pick up the Snow Globe base. Artists will construct their artwork on top of the base. Artists must ensure that the artwork is well anchored to the base so artwork can be safely transported by Webb Productions.

November 10-14, 2025 is the final installation period with Webb Productions. Artists will bring their completed artwork (already adhered to base) and will be onsite with the Webb team. They will work directly with Snow Globe fabricators at Webb to ensure they successfully integrate their artwork inside the Snow Globes.

Webb Productions will transport the completed Snow Globes to their install sites on Park City’s Historic Main Street on November 21, 2025.

The Snow Globes will remain on Main Street until January 5, 2026, at which time Webb Productions will remove them and transport them to their facility for decommissioning. Once deinstalled, the Snow Globes will be available at Webb Productions for artist pickup. Any creations not collected by January 30, 2026, will no longer be the responsibility of Webb Productions or HPCA.
