Sundyn Woolf: Art Creates a Stronger Community

Sundyn Woolf has recently taken up co-residence with her mother, local artist Peg Bodell, in Bodell’s CREATE PC Studio. “I was very excited when my mom told me I would be able to use the studio when I moved back to Park City,” says Woolf. “So, I'm grateful for the opportunity to share the space with her. I thought it would be no big deal to put my art on hold for a few months. Turns out it's best for everyone's physical and mental health if I have access to art on a consistent basis. I feel like my artistic voice is still pretty new and I consider my art pretty "raw".  I have a lot to explore and I know my art will refine with experience.” Sharing a studio at CREATE PC has also opened the way for Woolf to explore her artistry. “I did an experimental piece a few years ago where I added texture to an alcohol ink painting.  I'm currently expanding on that idea and seeing where it takes me.”

Woolf and Bodell have collaborated before, including on the Miners9 Art Exhibit that runs monthly from April through September at the Miners Hospital. “At the end of 2023 my mom asked me if I wanted to do an art show with her at the Miners Hospital. I was amazed that would even be possible considering what an amazing location and venue it would be. I suggested we invite other artists [to] fill the space and make it a more appealing event. That was the beginning of the Miners9 Art Exhibit. We have nine artists bring their work to the Miners Hospital and create their own mini art gallery. This is where I sold my art for the first time. I love that we have expanded the event to offer this opportunity to local artists in different stages of their professional career.”

Woolf grew up in Summit County, and says the local Arts & Culture was an important part of her experience. “I performed in a few ballet recitals as a kid at The Egyptian Theater, so it has a special place in my heart. It's such a cool place and they do a great job putting on amazing shows and bringing in top talent. Theater Manager Randy Barton and I used to rule the airwaves at Park City Television. I'm so happy he's still a big part of the creative community here.”

CREATE PC has gained an Artist-in-Residence in Woolf, and also a cheerleader who envisions spreading the word about the value of our Local Artist Collective. “I'm very honored to be able to be in a gallery with all the amazing local talent. I wouldn't be able to do that if it weren't for CREATE PC. Now we just need some cool and eye-catching art elements out on Kearns [Boulevard] to alert all the great folks out there that local artists are expanding their creativity right here!”

Indeed, according to Woolf local artists play a critical role in defining Summit County. “We believe that art is what makes any community unique. Architecture, signage, landscaping, etc. are all possible canvases with the potential to express something very special. Incorporating art in all areas of the community, whether in city planning, theater, dance, public art, etc. ensures that there is no other place like Park City. Art creates a stronger community and visitors want to come back because we are a real community with a history and story to tell.”
