Color in the Community: New Murals Brighten Park City
Over the past year, a wave of vibrant murals has been emerging across Park City, adding color, character, and creativity to unexpected corners of the town. From affordable housing projects to community spaces, local artists are transforming blank walls into visual stories that reflect the spirit of the Wasatch. Many of these works are created by regional and Utah-based artists whose roots and experiences in mountain communities inspire the themes, colors, and stories woven into their designs, connecting Park Cityβs growing art scene to the broader creative energy of the Intermountain West.
One of the most striking new additions can be found at The Engine House, part of Park Cityβs affordable housing project behind Boneyard Saloon. Artist Caro Nilsson painted a mural titled βThe Smallest Things, the Biggest, and the Dance That Happens Between Them,β a piece she describes as βa love letter to the Wasatch Back, the view from the top of Clayton, the blues upon blues of distance.β She explains, βItβs about the push and pull between the far distance and the closeness of right here. In the mountains we are reminded of both, the nearby and the faraway, we meet it all in the middle.β Caro also shared how meaningful it was to collaborate with the Kimball Art Center and the Youth Art Academy, saying, βThey spent an afternoon helping me put down areas of color around the flowers. Painting is such a conduit for conversation and inspiration, it is a bridge between communities.β Known for her playful, nature-inspired work, Caroβs murals can be spotted throughout Utah, blending color and motion into every surface she touches.
At the Slopeside Village development in Canyons Village, another mural brings life to the growing area. The piece, created by Sarah Meitler, showcases her signature style of bright, fluid compositions that capture movement and emotion. Sarahβs work often draws from nature and human connection, giving her murals a sense of both grounding and wonder.
CREATE PC Local Artist Collective participant AD Allegretti, who recently completed a mural for the National Ability Center, continues to utilize public art to connect people and their surroundings. ADβs work often explores inclusivity, empowerment, and the beauty of community, themes that align perfectly with the NACβs mission to make recreation accessible for all.
At several private sites around town and Salt Lake City, Anna Nizhoniβs powerful, colorful designs can also be found, adding energy to walls and alleyways. Her murals draw from her DinΓ© (Navajo) heritage and explore stories of identity, resilience, and belonging. You can keep an eye out for her upcoming mural at the CREATE PC Holiday Makers Market. Be sure to come check it out!
Together, these artists are helping paint a new layer of Park Cityβs story, one that celebrates creativity, diversity, and community connection. Next time youβre out and about, keep an eye out for these murals. Theyβre more than just decoration; theyβre a reflection of the vibrant people who make this mountain town come alive.
