Every year, the Filmmakers Showcase presents an evening of short films made by filmmakers from around the state followed by a reception for artists and attendees to meet and mingle. Entries are accepted from artists to celebrate the art of film as well as the talent of Utah filmmakers and artists and create opportunities for collaboration and networking within the Utah filmmaking community.

The Filmmakers Showcase celebrates and fosters emerging and seasoned talent, provides a venue for finished work, and cultivates and supports the filmmaking community in Utah.

It is a connective rather than a competitive event. Founder Jill Orschel explains, “By design it’s a low-pressure, fun, supportive celebration of each other’s work. The film industry can be a competitive and cut throat business most of the time so we try to make this the opposite of that and include one and all as best we can.” Over the years, Executive Director, Katy Wang, has offered both guidance, and freedom, for this program to grow and become a much loved annual event cultivating community through film.

Now in its 14th year, Park City Film presents the Filmmakers Showcase as part of the Made in Utah Film Series. In years past, the line-up included a variety of films from documentaries, fiction, animation, and music videos and has continued to evolve and expand each year. Recent years have seen tremendous growth with digital technology being the biggest factor in more people making films and the improved quality of their product.

Orschel says that giving students the ability to show their films at the Jim Santy Auditorium gives them a confidence and belief in themselves that could follow them for a lifetime. “It never gets old for anyone to see their work on the big screen with a live audience.”

Don’t miss the 14th Annual Park City Filmmakers Showcase, Thursday November 21 at 7pm at the Jim Santy Auditorium where local filmmakers of all ages and experience levels will come to share their works of shorts, trailers and clips in a supportive environment. After the screening, all are welcome to the reception where the filmmaker will be there to speak to the audience and with each other.
