Be Part of the Art at the 2023 Summit County Fair

International Muralists Sasha Primo & Romeo Sosa

Join Ledges Sculpture artists Sasha Primo and Romeo Sosa at the 2023 Summit County Fair to participate in a creative activity and make your mark on the Ledges Sculpture!

The Summit County Public Art Advisory Board, with support from the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County, is producing a sculptural artwork to be installed in August 2023 at the Ledges Event Center in Coalville, UT. The Ledges Event Center is named after the nearby cliff ledges, which are adorned with ancient pictographs, petroglyphs, and historical etchings—a unique feature of the area. The Ledges Sculpture will honor the natural beauty of the Coalville Ledges, and will include the interactive element of magnets printed in a variety of artistic shapes that will be placed onto the sculpture, representing a collection of “modern pictographs.”

Muralist Sasha Primo, who painted the 2022 Hoytsville Historical Mural, has returned to Summit County with his colleague Romeo Sosa to install the Ledges Sculpture. Sasha has worked internationally, creating large-scale art projects in his home country of Argentina as well as abroad; his method focuses on community involvement. Romeo is an industrial artist with over 13 years of experience in creating design furniture and sculptural art installations; his artistic exploration is based on the implementation of new materials, technologies, and techniques.

Sasha and Romeo, along with Board Members of the Summit County Public Art Advisory Board, will be present on Friday, August 11th and Saturday, August 12th from 11am-4pm to answer your questions about the Ledges Sculpture and the Board’s public art initiatives, and to guide you through a brief creative exercise that will enliven the finished sculpture with magnetic designs.

In this activity participants will have the opportunity to engage with specific magnets whose shapes are based upon 'contemporary myths,' which were proposed by the local community and inspired by the local Ledges petroglyphs, pictographs, and etchings. The artists will provide various materials and textures suitable for people of all ages to use to draw, paint, and collage! Additionally, you are encouraged to bring your own fabrics, quilts, or old pictures to further enhance these shapes. Once the magnets are produced and installed, be sure to stop by the artwork, play with the magnets, and use them to form new stories!

Look for Sasha and Romeo’s tent at the Fair, located near the Eastern wall of the Ledges Event Center Building, and bring the whole family over for ongoing creative activities.
