Kinky Boots at the Egyptian July 7th-23rd

Kinky Boots will be strutting across The Egyptian Theatre stage this summer starting July 7th through the 23rd. This fun and fashionable musical won six Tonys including Best Musical, the Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album and London’s Olivier Award for Best Musical.

This Ziegfeld Theatre production is co-directed by Jeremy Sidwell, also known as local drag queen Poison Grace and by Jordyn Aspyn making her Northern Utah directorial debut.

The Broadway production featured songs and lyrics by Cindi Lauper and an entertaining and endearing book by Harvey Fierstein. “I really enjoy and appreciate the book of this play,” explains Aspyn. “Every scene, every song, and every joke helps move the story along. It helps the audience get to know these characters and allows us to see them, not only as fun characters, but real people through their humor. I don’t know how anyone could watch this show and not fall in the love with these characters the way that I have.”

Charlie Price inherits the family shoe business and finds himself in a quandary. The simple decision is to close the beleaguered business and sell the factory so he can get on with the life he’d planned for himself. But Charlie has a heart and realizes, his father’s legacy, long-time employees and his own values -- matter.

Flamboyant Lola appears and becomes his inspiration and his friend. Together, they learn by working together, they can bring about positive change and happy endings for all. Lola/Simon is played by Andre’-Mar’quis “Moon” Mitchell. “Moon has such a beautiful journey as Lola and Simon,” according to Aspyn. “As Lola, she commands the attention of any room she is in. While portraying Simon, there is a distinct difference in both his physical and emotional interactions. As the show goes on, you start to observe the two personas becoming one as Simon finds the strength, confidence, and style of Lola and brings it to every aspect of his life.”

“I couldn’t be more proud of this production,” says Aspyn. “This show and its messages are so relevant right now - for so many reasons. Our team feels incredibly lucky to be a part of this production. I think everyone can learn and grow by seeing this show and I can’t wait to bring this show to our Park City audiences.”
