Local Spotlight // Amber Hansen, Director of A CHORUS LINE

A CHORUS LINE returns to The Egyptian Theatre July 5-21 and Artistic Director Amber Hansen is at the helm as director. In 2014, while directing this play as an in-house musical, she discovered she was pregnant and decided taking a break was in order. "During that time, we formed our relationship with the Ziegfeld Theatre which is great because we can combine talent pools and share the cost and labor," says Hansen.

She is more than excited about this current production, expressing "‘A Chorus Line’ is one of the greatest musicals ever written.  It has everything; show stopping dance numbers, comedy, drama, and is raw and real and is one of those shows that change you to your core.  I still get chills thinking about some of the songs and moments throughout the show."

They'll be using the revival script which has a few minor updates but with original choreography from Michael Bennett for the big numbers and true to the time and place of the original story.   Debuting on Broadway in 1975, it somehow remains timeless. According to Hansen, "It is still true to form of a New York audition experience and has themes and stories we can all relate to; growing up, family issues, relationships and loss."

Although Hansen didn't name a favorite character among the line, she admitted, now that she is older she relates more to Sheila. "There are many things I love about each character and the actors I cast are perfect for their roles."

Whether you've seen 'A Chorus Line' multiple times or missed it along the way....Director Amber Hansen invites to enjoy this revival performance."This was our most successful show back in 2014 and I hope people from Park City and beyond will come and laugh and cry with us as we take you through this wonderful story. It really is a labor of love and passion. Each actor was free to explore themselves in their character and bare their own souls with stories from their lives that were told during rehearsals that translated into very deep character work."
