Monster Drawing Rally Returns September 9th

Monster Drawing Rally is a high-energy event that highlights the talents of Summit County’s local artists. This year, the event will be held on Saturday, September 9, from 3-6 p.m. at the Kimball Art Center on Kearns Boulevard.

This marks the seventh year for Park City’s most creative live event that allows attendees to watch local artists in real time as they create original pieces of artwork.

“We look forward to this event each year,” says Jocelyn Scudder, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County. “It is designed to bring the community together in support of local artists in a fun and upbeat setting, and gives everyone in attendance an opportunity to bring home an original work of art at an accessible price point.”

Throughout the afternoon, artists create 2D artwork in 50-minute shifts. Finished pieces are immediately available for purchase at $50 each. Luck of the draw decides the winner of any piece with more than one bidder. All proceeds support the production of the event and future creative community programming.

"The bidding process is both exciting and intentional,” Scudder explained. “It's not about how high you can bid, which normally determines a live auction; it’s about everyone there having the ability to become not just an admirer of the art, but a collector.”

Many of the participating artists will also bring artwork in for a silent auction. Bidding will take place throughout the event within Kimball Art Center (1251 Kearns Blvd.).

Sixty percent of the silent auction proceeds go directly back to the artists. Artists participating in the Monster Drawing Rally will donate the sale of their $50 artwork to the partner nonprofits. The silent auction allows artists to sell work and gain exposure, so there's a shared benefit for both the nonprofit and the artists.

20 local artists are participating in this year's event, including: AD Allegretti • Anna Leigh Moore • Beatriz Killpack • Blake Peterson • Brooke Hargis • Danielle Powers • Elissa Jofre • Eric Warner • Heather Peteroy • James Saarela • Karen Millar Kendall • Katie Kurchinski • Kevin Arthofer • Kylie Millward • Marley Wright • Olga Hegner • Olivia Dawson • Renee Mox Hall • Scout Maziarz • Tori Olson • Zia Terry.

“Our commitment to the community is to serve as a catalyst for creativity,” explains Aldy Milliken, Kimball Art Center Executive Director. “Monster Drawing Rally provides a great avenue for for artists to connect with the community and each other. The event is just an all out blast.”

In addition to live art making, there will be music and beverages will be offered. Self-guided tours of Kimball Art Center’s current exhibition, Between Life & Land: Crisis, will be available, too.
