Open Call to Veterans: Stories of Service

On Veterans Day, we honor those who have served and continue to serve our nation. To pay tribute to our service members and their families this November 11th, the Arts Council in partnership with the National Ability Center and Park City Municipal would like to celebrate stories of veterans to honor those who have served in our nation’s armed forces through literary art.

If you are a veteran and would like to participate, please submit a statement (200 words or less) by Friday, November 6th about your service following the prompt “I am proud to have served our nation because...”. Your story response to this prompt can be one sentence, a poem, or a personal statement about your experience and pride as a veteran.

Stories will be transformed into large format posters displaying words written by veterans who submit to this call. Posters will be placed in storefronts, restaurants, public buildings and municipal facilities throughout the Park City area. Veteran posters will be installed on Tuesday, November 11th (Veterans Day) and will be available for viewing throughout the week. The Arts Council along with its partners will also post veteran stories on social media, and will create a digital exhibit of veteran stories on our createpc.org website.

Art connects us and inspires us. Art serves as a platform to communicate and is a mode for self expression. Art helps us gain new perspectives, as it illustrates the human experience, allowing us to understand each other better. This art project aims to do exactly that—to connect our community through the written word, highlighting and celebrating the stories of our veterans who have made sacrifices for our nation.
