Park City Historian Pens Book for Images of America Series

Dalton Gackle, Research, Digital Services, and Social Media Coordinator, has been employed

at Park City History Museum since his arrival in 2019. His title is long and although the word

history or historian does not appear, it is indeed his passion and has been as long as

he can remember.

“Perhaps it’s because you can explore anything you want with history. Even if you are

interested in a field of science or engineering, you could study the history of those

fields or of subjects within those fields. Everything is history,” explains Dalton.

Dalton’s latest project is a book entitled Park City, which is part of Arcadia Publishing’s

Images of America Series. The book is organized into brief chapters with many captioned

photographs outlining the mining history, early pioneers and significant events in our town. “I

thought it would be a good way to engage locals and visitors in the history without

being too overwhelming with a traditional history monograph,” says Dalton.

Filled with significant images from the blazing Great Fire to a nearly deserted Main Street of

the 1950s and 60s, the book is a great way for locals to get an overview of Park City’s

fascinating history. “And it’s something they can share with guests too,” says Dalton.

“Hopefully, it’s a book that will get them interested in wanting to learn more about Park

City history (then they could visit the Museum; read our weekly Way We Were articles;

attend Museum events; support and/or join us, the Glenwood Cemetery, and the

Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History; and more)!”

Park City: Images of America is available at the Museum, online on Amazon and Arcadia

Publishing’s website and at Dolly’s Bookstore. It will also be in the Museum’s Research

Library, and available to check out from the Park City Library and Summit County Library

Kimball Junction Branch.

Congratulations, Dalton and thank you for keeping Park City history alive.
