Park City Museum Historic Ornaments

Park City Museum and their committee 'Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History' have been working with contractor, Clark Martinez and structural engineer, Jonathan Richards since summer 2019 to stabilize the Thaynes Canyon conveyor, which is featured on the 2019 ornament.

According to Museum Director Sandra Morrison, “The work will continue through the summer of 2020, to ensure this amazing historic structure survive for future generations to discover, marvel and enjoy.”

This is the first time local artist Peg Bodell has created the design and was honored to do so. “My very good friend, Judy Taylor created many of the early ornaments,” explained Peg. “She passed away in 2006 so as I've worked on this project I feel like I've had her on my shoulder and I want to do her proud.”

To begin the process, Peg toured the site to take photographs and do preliminary sketches.”To be able to walk around the place and see the lockers and how the miners lived and worked made it much more personal.”

Once sketches were made, she cut out portions in order to layer the design and give it depth. Once textures and colors were decided, Peg's creation was sent to the art team at Beacon Design. Peg consulted with them directly in order to nail down the final details.

“I was very pleased with the final product” said Bodell, “and look forward to working on this annual project going forward.”

These limited edition ornaments cost $30 and are still available exclusively at the Museum Store. All proceeds go to preserve, protect and promote Park City's history and heritage.  https://parkcityhistory.org/holiday-ornaments/
