In this blog post we feature a favorite from new Park City Public Art Board Member, Hillary Gilson. Not only does she serve on the Park City Public Art Board, but Hillary also is the Artist and Special Event Manager at Kimball Art Center

Her favorite Park City Public Art piece is A Sacred Community, the Poison Creek Tunnel Mural, by Danny Stephens, Jessika Jeppson, Rosi Hayes, Lindsey Larsen, and Miguel Galex.

Here is more about what Hillary loves about this colorful mural in her own words.

“During summer 2015 I was 25, living in Old Town, and working in the service industry. I had been in Park City for just under 2 years and was still developing my sense of place in the community. A couple of the Sacred Community artists were working at Zoom on Main Street and encouraged my friends and I to participate in creating the mural.  We would walk down the hill, grab a coffee at Atticus and spend the morning painting triangles vibrant colors while connecting with passersby and others who stopped by to paint.

Participating in this project made me feel more integrated in the Park City community and still does every time I pass it. I love how all the different colors work together to create visually stunning patterns. The Sacred Community Mural also makes me think of how each individual works together to create the overall experience of living in Park City. Just like the mural, our community would not be the same without all of our colorful characters, events, businesses, and landscape.”

See the Sacred Community Mural for yourself,  in the Poison Creek Tunel. Thanks to PCPAAB member Hillary for the insight. Stay tuned for more Park City public art favorites in the coming months.
