Summer Music in the City

In Park City, it’s sometimes difficult to know when summer has really arrived. Summer is more of a feeling than it is a defined season around here, as it can snow at any time, and it often does. Parkites feel like it’s summer when the outdoor concerts begin, and our community flocks together, picnicking to live music in the extended twilight hours of the day.

Several local nonprofits will soon make these hills ring with outdoor summer shows, drawing locals and visitors of all ages to a handful of outdoor venues. The Utah SymphonyI Utah Opera makes its summer home at Deer Valley’s Outdoor Amphitheatre with 12 different Deer Valley Music Festival performances which include The Music of Prince, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, and collaborations with The Beach Boys and Diana Krall. Park City Institute produces the St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights Concert Series, also on the hill at Deer Valley, with more mainstream acts which include Melissa Etheridge, Smash Mouth with Cracker, The Romantics, and Five For Fighting. Mountain Town Music fills in the gaps with socially-garrulous and non-ticketed events, four or more days a week in locations from Old Town to Pinebrook and Peoa to Newpark, with many stages in between. Mountain Town Music shows feature local musicians as well as up-and-coming nationally-touring acts.

In an unexpected twist on the usually-strict Utah liquor laws, patrons can bring their own ‘adult-beverages’ to all of these concerts. Enjoy Summer-while it’s here!
