Celebrate the Holiday Season with the Winter Break Film Series

For most people, movies are viewed as simple form of entertainment. By design, they are meant to provide entertainment to the masses, but is it that all? It can be very easy to be dismissive of films. So-called popular films can seem especially inconsequential. However, can you honestly say you’ve never been influenced or affected by a film in a meaningful and lasting way?

Think about what your life would be like without movies. They might not play a significant role in your day-to-day life, but they have likely made some sort of impact on you over the years. Without them, we could fail to make significant realizations about ourselves or the world around us that can shape our lives. The truth is that because of a film’s ability to communicate and entertain in such a consumable way, it is very effective at delivering messages that can have great meaning to individuals. Needless to say, this is not reserved for all movies.

Apart from those mentioned above, I believe movies allow us to experience a life that we may never really get to experience by placing ourselves on the shoes of the characters in the movie being watched. If we are watching a movie showing a protagonist as a general during world war II, we in some way experience through the movie the life of that general and his actions and adventures, even his problems and emotions become part of us while we are watching the movie. Real-life story movies, on the other hand, allows us to witness the life of others which was experienced by them in real life at some point in time. We get to admire them on how they can solve and endure their real-life challenges. Science fiction is a different thing. It makes us imagine what would happen if things that are yet impossible today become possible in the future. Sci-fi movies are an attempt to predict the conditions of the future through a movie.

Even when considering all that is stated above, I believe the most important thing that movies do is brings us all together as a community. We love to discuss our favorite films and how they impacted us. It not only brings you closer to those around you but also strangers. I don’t know how many times I’ve had discussions with someone I just met about our favorite films and their impact. I believe this is by far and away the most important impact that film has. With this in mind, I would like to spotlight the Winter Break Film Series. This is a way for your family and those around you to experience great films throughout the winter break. Starting on December 26th, the Park City Library will bring 5 different films to watch, free of charge.
