Local Author Feature // Arthur Quinn

After half a century of working as a lawyer in Washington D.C. and as an international business consultant in countries around the world, Arthur Quinn has now settled in Park City and with the publishing of his first children’s book, The Rarie, has officially become an author.

Quinn, has employed the use of storytelling throughout his professional career and personally sharing his stories with family. He has written 5 picture books and 1 chapter book over the years but The Rarie is the first to be illustrated and published.

The story is an elaboration of a joke told to him by a law school classmate about 65 years ago. “An Irish family discovers a mysterious, motionless ball of fur on their doorstep, with a note that says, ‘Please take care of my Rarie’, explains Quinn. “They brought it in and cared for it. It grew larger and larger but never moved. Eventually, it grew so large, they became frightened and decided to destroy it by pushing it into a nearby river. It was so large and the river far away. They finally got it to the edge when it came to life and began singing, ‘It's a long way to Tipperary’."

Quinn’s children and grandchildren have grown up hearing these stories but local elementary children have now heard them as well. “My favorite part of sharing my stories with children is the satisfaction of received from being able to hold the attention for the duration of the of the story,” explains Quinn. “Most children are naturally restless and often with short attention spans, so when I am reading one of my stories to them and they are still and rapt, I am gratified.”

The next project, already underway, will take the form of a series of adventures of a leprechaun named Brendan the Brave.

The Rarie is available in paperback on Amazon.
