Last week, the Arts Council had a chance to catch up with Brian Richards, the executive director of Mountain Town Music. Even throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, Brian and his team are doing everything they can to foster, support, and create live music in Park City and Summit County.

Starting next week, Mountain Town Music will have weekly, apres-ski concert series at the Corner Store Pub and Grill. The Thursday concerts will feature the cream of the crop of the local music scene, with jazz, funk, and rock and roll bands. It’s all free, live, outdoors, and Covid-19 safe. Concerts start on Feb 4th and will happen weekly on Thursdays through April 1st. Check out all upcoming shows here

Mountain Town Music has also created an effort called Mountain Town Music Cares, which brings pop-up performances to our community’s essential workers. Brain says, “these pop-ups aren’t really meant for public consumption because they take place at police stations, fire houses, hospitals and Covid-19 testing sites, and along bus routes. Instead, they’re about using music as a tool for wellness. At Mountain Town Music we believe that music can heal, especially during times of trauma.”  Brain continues, “the power of music to brighten days and give a sense of normalcy has really come to light this past year. When we don’t see live music, we really notice its absence from our lives.”

You might also check out Mountain Town Music’s new merchandise line, which helps support the organization and keep the group in local consciousness. As Mountain Town Music explores music as it relates to wellness, they’re tying those ideas into the merchandise design. The hat features the slogan “awakening the groove” and the third-eye comes from the idea that music can be an impetus for wellbeing and inner awakening.

It's important, now more than ever, for our community to rally behind Mountain Town Music. With so many new people coming into town, there’s a growing lack of awareness about the breadth of Mountain Town Music. The impact of the organization stretches far beyond concerts. Mountain Town Music really has a huge reach. For example, they're building a sustainable music community — from initiatives at elementary schools, to internship programs in audio engineering for high schoolers, Mountain Town Music is a champion for our community. It’s a nice reminder to Park City folks new and old to dig into the mission of Mountain Town Music and to explore the myriad of initiatives they’ve got going on.

We thank Mountain Town Music for the joy and light they bring to our community through music!
