The Kimball Arts Center is Offering Classes That Celebrate the Holiday Season

The holidays mean different things to different people. For me, the holidays are about family, food, and tradition. The smells, tastes, and decorations bring memories flooding back. The things I once did as a child and now do with those around me to keep those traditions alive. However, I’ve quickly come to realize that trying new things every holiday season is just as important and satisfying. The Kimball Arts Center has already prepared several special classes to help celebrate the coming of the holiday season. Some of these classes include Winter watercolor, custom cards, wrap it up, sweets for Santa, glass fusion, ugly sweaters, gingerbread houses, unique ornaments in glass, and tabletop trees in glass.

Winter watercolor is a mixed media and watercolor class that looks for you to create winter scenes. Snowcapped mountains, a roaring fire on a cold night, and pine trees dusted with white are just a few examples of some of the scenes that can be explored in this class.

Custom Cards is a class that looks to both create your own holiday cards but also learn about relief printmaking methods. This class would go extremely well with another class offered called Wrap it Up! Wrap it Up is a “whimsical, fun-filled, anyone-can-do-it workshop, create your own one-of-a-kind wrapping paper, bags, tags, and boxes for the holidays – or any days.” Upcycle shipping cartons, butcher paper, recycled greeting cards, Kraft paper, newsprint and more as you transform your gifts into personalized, show-stopping keepsakes, guaranteed to bring “oohs” and “ahhs” under the tree.

Sweets for Santa is a class that focuses on creating holiday plates. After you’ve created your holiday plates, you can decorate and taste-test the cookies you plan to leave for the big guy. Cookies will be provided by Auntie Em’s Bakery.

Ugly Sweaters is a competition held by the Kimball Arts Center. The competition is described as “The stakes are high; the competition is fierce. Take home the ‘ugly sweater’ trophy when you design your own!” You’ll be provided a sweater or sweatshirt and all the tacky accessories you need to win the contest.

When it comes to the holiday season, I believe one of the most iconic aspects is the building of gingerbread houses. In this popular class, you’ll build your own gingerbread house with icing, candy, graham crackers and more.

The last two holiday-themed classes include Tabletop Trees in Glass & Unique Ornaments in Glass. Both classes look to create unique glass ornaments that are sure to give your tree a special holiday glow. Both of these classes emphasize that every piece of art is unique and that is what will help your tree stand out.

These classes are just a small portion of the entire catalog of classes offered by the Kimball Arts Center. These holiday-themed classes are a great way to either keep current traditions alive or to perhaps to establish a new one.
