On Display

If art shows are your speed, you’ll want to check out the east side of Summit County. With two exciting exhibitions this summer, your art interest will be more than piqued. Check them out and get an artistic perspective of the area’s east side.

Local Showcase
Discover new and original art by local artists at the Summit Arts Showcase. This opportunity lets artists exhibit their work in their own community to enthusiasts from near and far. Some of the featured artists will even be doing live demonstrations of their craft. Stop by to peruse the art, add something to your collection, and enjoy live music and delicious treats. The picturesque location of the famous Red Barn nestled in the Uinta Mountains only adds to the beauty on display.

The event includes ceramics, mixed media, jewelry, watercolor and more. The Summit Arts Showcase will be held July 13–14.

Fair and Fine
The Fine Arts Exhibit at the Summit County Fair highlights local artists. See work by residents of all experience levels from amateur to professional – and submitted by a variety of age groups from kindergarteners to senior citizens. You can peruse entries in a variety of categories: fine art, sculpture, pottery, hand-blown glass and metal. See which pieces won and get a taste of Summit County life through art.

The Summit County Fair will be held August 9-11.

Art at the library

The Park City Library hosts art exhibitions throughout its first and second floors. The library believes that both the written word and artistic expression are valuable to the community. These exhibitions give great exposure to local artists, and provide a unique cultural experience for community members and visitors. Pop in to see pieces by local artists in various 2D mediums. Some of the pieces are even for sale!

Lucky Ones Coffee: While you’re at the library, stop in at Lucky Ones Coffee for a drink and a nibble. Located inside the library and open daily from 8 am – 5 pm, the shop employs and empowers people with disabilities to help change the way people see others

Go for glass

Create a truly one-of-a-kind piece and release your creativity at Red Flower Studios. At this creative hot shop, you work with an experienced artisan to design and create a piece of handmade glass. With their help, you’ll color and shape a piece of molten glass into a unique piece of art. Use your trip to learn a new skill and create something beautiful.

Art Stroll

Downtown Park City, Utah is a picturesque mountain town that also happens to have a vibrant art scene. Many art galleries are in close proximity to each other, and on the last Friday of every month, they open their doors for a Gallery Stroll. On these evenings, join fellow art-lovers in meandering down Historic Main Street through 19 participating galleries. Check out the newest installations from local, national, and international artists and enjoy light refreshments.

There’s no better way to cap off a summer evening than enjoying art and a beautiful mountain walk through a charming downtown. The Last Friday Gallery Stroll is from 6-9 pm. Check out this map to see the locations of all 19 galleries.

An Artistic Ride

Summit County is known for its mountain biking terrain, but recently it’s also gaining fame for its bike share program. Summit Bike Share is the nation’s first fully electric bike share, and it’s a great way to explore the public sculpture around town. The e-bikes have an electric pedal assist which can give you an extra boost and make the town’s hills much more manageable. This summer, try using the bikes to visit the various public sculpture installations around Park City – without breaking a sweat.

To Get You Started: Don’t miss the Miner sculpture, located at 405 Main Street in Miner’s Park. This piece pays homage to the town’s humble beginnings when it was well-known for what was in the mountains -- silver!

Franz the Bear has become a local icon; just check out #FranzTheBear on social media. You can find this friendly fellow on a bench at 560 Main Street along the sidewalk that spans Swede Alley and Main St. Stop and take a Selfie with him and tag @pcscArts.

Cruise over to see Flaco, a metal and wood horse piece on display at 1250 Park Ave.

3-Days of Art

The Park City Kimball Arts Festival is the largest 3-day event in the summer in Park City. Experience art, cuisine and music on Historic Main Street in a high-energy, multi-sensory fundraiser for a local art center. The Festival draws over 50,000 guests and this year is featuring art from more than 220 artists. Hailing from 34 states and Canada, this year’s artists will exhibit work in 12 categories.

At the festival, you can browse the artists’ booths, listen to live music, and celebrate the importance of art. You can even take the little ones to the kids’ art area where they can paint with water guns, make wind catchers, contribute to an interactive sculpture, do a clay project, and get their faces painted.

Of course, it’s not a festival without food! There will be a food truck roundup with unique local favorites, a Utah Artisan Tasting area with small, handcrafted, award-winning food producers, and several beer and wine gardens. Ready, set, draw!

The Monster Drawing Rally is a unique drawing event that’s part live entertainment, part exhibit. Throughout the evening, local artists will take 50-minute shifts drawing and making art as spectators enjoy seeing the creative process firsthand. The finished pieces -- drawings, mixed media, watercolor, acrylic and more -- are immediately available for purchase, so it’s a great way to support local art and take home a memento from a one-of-a-kind event.

The Monster Drawing Rally was on May 31 at the Kimball Art Center. If you missed this art event, don’t fret! Many artist’s works are available at galleries throughout town. 

Latino Local

Park City is one of Utah’s historic mountain towns, and about 25% of Park City dwellers are from Latin America. The Latino Arts Festival celebrates the heritage, diversity and traditions of the local community. Beautiful art can bring people together, and the Festival is a fun way to learn about Latino cultures and embrace diversity. Enjoy art displays, dance performances, craft demonstrations and of course, delicious Latino food. Summer is the perfect time for cultural events.
