Beautiful Boy // An Insight Into Mental Health & Addiction

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Park City Film will be presenting a free screening of Beautiful Boy on Thursday May 9th at 7pm at the Library Center Theater. The film is about the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years. Based on memoirs “Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction” by father David Sheff and “Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines” by son Nic Sheff, the film examines the son’s addiction to meth and the father’s response to his son’s struggles.

Silver and Snow: The Park City Story

On Thursday, April, 24 at 5 pm, in the Jim Santy Auditorium, Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History invite the public to a free screening of Silver and Snow: The Park City Story. In conjunction with Park City Historical Society and Salt Lake Public Broadcasting TV station KUED, Larry Warren, former TV reporter expanded his resume by writing, producing and making this entertaining and informative documentary just in time to share with visitors at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. This will be it’s first public screening since then.

Local Filmmaker Profile: Grant Carsten

Grant Carsten, a 21 year old student at University of Utah is following the passion for filmmaking he developed as a Park City high school student. Originally, he wanted to be an actor. In the fall of 2011, he took a script-writing class which sparked his desire to direct. In 2015, as a high school senior, Grant participated in the Miner Film Festival with a short film entitled Grade Camp and was recognized by the judges with The Sundance Passion for Filmmaking Award.

Jack Price was named the winner of the 2019 Breaking Boundaries Snowboard, Freestyle, and Freeski World Championships Youth Film Contest with his short film titled “Pushing the Boundaries.” The film contest was open to young filmmakers ages 21 and younger to tell their own stories about breaking boundaries.

Local Artist & Filmmaker Nathan Florence Presents Work-in-Progress Film Art & Belief

Local artist Nathan Florence is breaking into the film scene by launching a work-in-progress film that he has been working on since 2010 called Art & Belief. The film will be shown as part of the new ‘Made in Utah’ program hosted by the Park City Film Series. Art & Belief will preview on September 6th at 7:00pm in the Jim Santy Auditorium at the Park City Library.

Latino Arts Festival 2018

Immerse yourself in creative and cultural offerings at the third Latino Arts Festival on Saturday and Sunday, June 16th and 17th from 3-8pm. This year, the event will be held outside at the Park City Library Field (1255 Park Ave.).

Showcasing the talents of the local Latino community, this free, all-ages event celebrates creative expression through fine arts and crafts, folkloric dance, live music, performances, food, and a Sundance film.

Park City Film Series to Host Women’s Panel in Conjunction with RBG Screening

The Park City Film Series will be showing RBG the weekend of June 8-10. RBG was a hit at Sundance, especially with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg attending the festival. The film is an inspiring look at her life, covering her marriage, her health, her family and, of course, her astonishing legal career. To further discuss this legacy, we're hosting a panel after Sunday's screening moderated by KPCW's Leslie Thatcher, with women who have equally incredible stories. We wanted this panel to represent different points of Justice Ginsburg's career, so we have an ACLU attorney, a law school professor, and a Utah Supreme Court Justice.

Park City Film Series Celebrates Earth Month

April 2018 is the 48th Anniversary of Earth Month®. The Earth Month Network recently published an article stating that “people from all age groups and backgrounds have one common thread to share: with all the advancements over the years many are still living in the dark as to our total environment; lacking simple awareness of issues and a direction to take. This is in part due to the increase in population density, industrialization, climate change, and apathy.”

Organizations and individuals around the world are spreading Earth Month knowledge and awareness through activism initiatives and educational opportunities. Our own Park City Film Series is screening two films this month to celebrate Earth Month and raise awareness about environmental sustainability.
