Challenging times call for innovation, new ideas, experimentation, and for the Arts Council, it means exploring creative projects that support our local creative sector while spreading a little bit of joy in our community.
In an effort to create new revenue streams for local artists and restaurants during this unprecedented time, Tasty Threads // Merch Aid is an initiative developed in collaboration by the Arts Council of Park City & Summit County and Zenzee, a local apparel brand to create limited edition creative merchandise to raise money for artists and restaurants who were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Park City Institute is hosting several interesting online events this month. Locals Live which is a series of streamed, state of the art, performances of local artists who are otherwise not able to work due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The series streams each Saturday night at 7:00 pm.

On Mountain Town Music's web page is the statement “In the face of uncertainty, music is a social balm for soothing anxiety, enhancing community connections and celebrating our community spirit.” They've streamed music virtually for the last month or so and plan to bring us live music in some novel new places and even right to our door this summer.

Pandemania(s)
Nan Chalt-Noaker's combined talents of creativity, knitting and photography have aided her in producing several stop-motion animation films with up lifting messages in this time of Covid Crisis.
Pandemania and Pandemania 2 have a run time of less than a minute but the time invested is incalculable. “It is impossible to add up the time spent building a set, creating the characters, knitting outfits for them and then shooting a scene. Even more time is spent in post production — touching up each frame, adding sound etc. It is time-consuming but I seem to be kind of obsessed with it. And I am completely self taught!”

The thing is, you often have more art supplies laying around the house than you realize. And the possibilities of what you can do if you just have scissors, glue, and paint are vast!

Monster Drawing Rally Returns with Rewired Look
One of Park City’s most beloved community events, the Monster Drawing Rally, has been postponed to the fall. But in an effort to support local artists and continue to inspire the community, organizers decided to host a similar virtual event on May 15th. Like the original Monster Draw, Monster Drawing Rally // Digital + Rewired will be a live art-making event that allows attendees to spy on the creative process. The ‘spying’ will take place via Zoom, while local artists create in their studios. Online attendees will still be able to purchase artwork for $50, and new this year, artists will have additional pieces available priced at their discretion.

Chalk Your Walk Summit County
We’ve all been spending a lot of time at home and find daily, solitary walks to be a physical and mental outlet for us. In order to brighten people’s day during their walks, the Arts Council partnered with Park City and Summit County to promote Chalk You Walk, a community public art project that encourages people to write messages of hope and joy on sidewalks in their neighborhood for others to enjoy as they pass by.

Support Local Artists // Purchase Art at CreatePC Online
CREATE PC, the Arts Council’s pop-up gallery and studio space at 660 Main Street, only recently opened its doors in September 2019. This space served not only as a retail gallery and studio space for 13 local artists, but also as an artist collective that enabled artists opportunities to make work and sell work in the same space. When the gallery was forced to close in mid-March due to the impacts of COVID-19, the Arts Council took this roadblock as an opportunity to pivot and transition the retail gallery into an online platform.

Creatively Quarantining - Summit County Arts & Culture Organizations Continue to Serve their Community through Virtual Activities & Events
The Park City Summit County Arts Council recognizes the severe hardship faced by many in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, and our hearts go out to those affected. During this difficult time, many of us are turning to the arts as a coping mechanism, keeping us creatively active during a time of isolation. In an effort to promote this, the Arts Council has launched a social media campaign, #ArtConnectsUs, and has partnered with our local arts and culture nonprofits to program virtual events and activities in the upcoming weeks.

Early this fall, KPCW became a construction site as work began on the long-awaited expansion. Their glassed-in, on-air studio perched above Swede Alley aka “the room with the view” became just the opposite as drywall went up surrounding the work space completely blocking the windows.
